Learning Spanish with IIC in the Dominican Republic

Check out our different Spanish Courses on the following pages
and find the program that suits you or your group best.

A Quick Overview: How we Manage our Courses

Locations: IIC runs 2 schools in the Dominican Republic: You can either take a Spanish course at IIC Sosua/Cabarete or at IIC Santo Domingo. You also have the possibility to study at both locations within one program (2-City-Program).

Course levels: IIC follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF). Courses are offered on 4 general levels: total Beginner (no prior Spanish language knowledge), Elementary A1/A2 (beginner with knowledge), Intermediate B1/B2, Advanced C1/C2.

Class schedule: Classes basically run on a morning and an afternoon schedule. In general, group courses take place in the morning between 9am and 12:30pm including a 30-minute break where all participants get together in our community area and on the terrace for some fun time and cultural exchange. Private tuition and intensive group courses are usually scheduled in the afternoon section between 1:30pm and 5pm. Depending on the amount of different language levels at a time, classes might also take place on the opposite schedule. The school retains the right to determine the timetable of the lessons.

If there is only 1 student enrolled on a group level in a certain week at a time, the student will work with a private teacher and receive individual lessons instead with a reduction in class hours of 50%. Class times may change to a 4-day morning schedule with Friday off (Monday to Thursday from 9am to 12pm including 30-minute break) or to an afternoon schedule with 2 hours per day Monday to Friday.

In the evening then between 5pm and 8pm, our local students of the English and German group classes are at the school - a great opportunity for you to meet people, practice your Spanish and learn more about the Dominican culture first-hand.

Start dates: Spanish courses are available all year round on all language levels at both IIC Institutes, including during summer and Christmas season. All group courses as well as private tuition start every Monday. If Monday is a public holiday, lessons will start on the following Tuesday. Regular class schedule: Monday to Friday. Here you will find further information about dates, prices and national holidays.
